Day 155 - Quiet Things / by Edward Crim

The noisy things in our lives get our attention, and sometimes that’s good. After all, the squeaky wheel needs the grease! But when we find ourselves overwhelmed by life’s demands, it is in the quiet things where we can find solace. Forest Park, in spite of its location in the center of human activity, offers many quiet rooms where peace and joy can be found. Today I wondered through two of those rooms and carefully examined the furniture. Here is what I thought about.

The raspberries; they are not yet ripe. There will certainly be a lot of them shortly, but as of the moment, they fail to satisfy my nature lust. Mulberries are ready in their room (the secret mulberry closet), but other than that, as it is early in the year, there are no fruit trees in the park, and the reviled and discredited Bradford pears that are here don’t bear fruit, if you are literally hungry for nature, you would be better off at Schnucks supermarket. How do you feel about greens?

On to photography stuff. Here the reasons you want to have a prime wide angle lens and a prime macro lens. I usually shoot with a 24-105mm zoom lens on my camera. At the wide angle end, however, it does not focus as closely as I would frequently like. My 28mm f1.8 prime lens focuses much closer when close, but wide, is the view I want.

At the 105mm setting, it focuses pretty darn close, but it looses effective focal length. You probably didn’t know that, so take a look at the photos I have and you will see what I mean.
